Here comes Summer Slaughter!
August 07, 2009
Hello Florida! Two weeks until the big event and I know everyone here at the Summer Slaughter forums is getting really excited. If you weren't aware, we just had a fantastic volunteer and staff meeting at Turkey Lake Park on August 2nd. We went over plenty of things and overall the energy at the meeting was really high because everyone was just so excited to get out there and participate in the event. So after all the meeting was very successful and we came to a few conclusions and decided plenty of things.
We've added some things to the event plans which I plan to go over here. First I'd like to talk about the Friday schedule. If your getting there on Friday, make sure you tell the "gate-keeper", aka the woman at the gate, that you are with Summer Slaughter because we are going to pay for your parking and they will just let you through, otherwise your paying for your own parking. Once you get into the park, make your way to pavilion 5. We are all the way in the back of the park at the group campsite. Ask the woman at the gate for directions.
Once you get to the group campsite, the FIRST thing you need to do before taking anything out of your vehicle and setting up, or even leaving the general area is to go to troll, register, and get your Summer Slaughter tags. Anyone without a summer slaughter tag during the event will be asked to leave the area and cannot participate in the events. So once you get your tag, don't lose it, and don't forget it. One last note about Friday I'd like to make is that we will be running an all weekend long Assassins tournament. Signup for the tournament will be on Friday AT troll. Shoonz will be running the event so just be prepared to sign up if you decide to participate when you get there.
If you still don't know, Summer Slaughter will be 20 dollars for all 3 days and only 10 dollars for Saturday. Either payment plan pays for you to eat at the feast on Saturday.
Besides the Assassin tournament we will be running 3 tournaments after the day battles on Saturday. They are planned to start at 5pm so make sure you are prepared. We've planned to run 3 tournaments and Titus has gladly offered to be a tournament sponsor. The three tournaments are shield and sword (not any blue just swords), Four horsemen (4v4 tournaments), and then the Atlantean Ring. I feel that it's important for you to know what tournaments ahead of time so you can practice accordingly and be prepared to fight your best against some of Florida's most skilled fighters!
Also to fix a misconception. I want to inform you all that NERO will not be at the camp at the same time as us. I blame the staff for this misconception unless NERO is having some unannounced event even to it's own members. The campground staff has informed me on multiple occasions that NERO would be there but apparently they won't be. So I just wanted to clarify that.
Now for the most important part. I've been giving people speculation on camp rules and regulations because I haven't been too clear myself and obviously this isn't going to fly because some people have certain expectations and if the camp regulates it there could be conflicts. First off, I have been informed that there is NO alcohol allowed into the camping grounds. Please keep your alcohol at home there is a HUGE fine if any is found. We don't need alcohol to have fun so don't bring it. Also some people have been wondering if we are allowed to have fire or not. Any source of fire will be absolutely forbidden. No tiki torches, no burning of wood on the grills, or anything besides using the grills and coal as a fuel source. However, there is a public camp fire ring that I have reserved for both Friday and Saturday for our use. Once everyone is settled in we will be using the fire pit near the camp site for our use which is the only place fire is allowed. So don't worry we will have a fire ring for us all to enjoy in the "pleasent" Florida weather. The only other sound restriction is that after 11:00 PM we can not be louder than 60 decibels. This is the only sound restriction so lets make sure to follow it and be respectful of other campers.
That's all I have! This is going to be an insanely fun event so whether your getting there early and joining the pickup battles on Friday or get there on Saturday for the main event, we GUARANTEE you will have plenty of fun and are doing everything in our power to run the best event possible.
